There are quite a few public access points to the Wind River. Be sure to pick up a current Wyoming fishing regulations book, or check locally for regs. Fishing on the reservation is not managed by WG&F. Contact the Wind River Indian Reservation, Fort Washakie WY 82513; (307) 332-7207.

DuNoir (1)

  • Go northwest from Dubois on US 26/287; access at DuNoir  6 miles northwest of Dubois
  • Fish: R, Br, C, B, MW
  • Facilities: None

Dubois Hatchery (2)

  • Go southeast from Dubois on US 26/287; access at Dubois Hatchery
  • Fish: R, B, MW
  • Facilities: None 

Below Dubois (3)

  • Go southeast from Dubois on US 26/287; access at several points along highway
  • Fish: R, B, MW
  • Facilities: None 

Wind River Indian Reservation (4)

  • Access to river off US Hwy 26 northwest or northeast from Riverton. All fishing on the reservation requires a special permit, available in Lander or Riverton. Check locally for regs

East Fork Wind River (5)

  • Go southeast from Dubois on US 26/287 for 10 miles; turn north on East Fork Rd. Access along road, in part on Spence/Moriarty Wildlife Management area.
  • Fish: C, B, R, MW
  • Facilities: T, Camp

Wedding of the Waters 

  • Go south from Thermopolis on US 20 for 4 miles; the Big Horn becomes the Wind River upstream from Wedding of the Waters; access from road next to river; special permit needed to fish on Wind River Indian Reservation. Some access to tailwaters at Boysen State Park
